Full-circle contact goniometer (brass with silvered scale, outside diameter 9 cm) with detachable steel arms in a leather-covered case lined with dark blue velvet.
Signed "Lingke in Freiberg", mid 19th century.
The upper part of the case has a label "G.J. Brush".
George Jarvis Brush (1831 – 1912) was an American mineralogist, Professor of Metallurgy and of Mineralogy at the Yale Sheffield Scientific School between 1857 and 1898, Director of the School from 1872 until 1898, and the first curator of the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History's mineral collection.
