Malachite specimen at Teylers Museum

 
In the central cupboard in the oval room of Teylers Museum in Haarlem, the Netherlands, is a malachite specimen from Siberia on display. It comes with an manuscript label by J. le Francq van Berkhey (1729-1812). Martinus Houttuyn (1720-1798) depicted this very specimen in vol 37 of his book on natural history (Natuurlyke Historie Of Uitvoerige Beschryving Der Dieren, Planten En Mineraalen, Volgens het Samenstel van den Heer Linnæus).

Malachites seu cuprum viride gypseum politurem
admittend ig regie in stratis fluctuans in lapide
cinnabarifero.
Malachiet of groen Koper Ertz golfswijde coper golfswijze lopende
door een cinnaber ijseragtige Bergstof.
Van Catharinenburg in Siberien.
Men siet in dit  fraeye stuk hoe de groene Stoffe
die wolkagtig dan donkerder, dan bleeker sig
golfswijse verspreid en doorvloeid in met meer
maels verdubbelde streepen als rokwijse het
binnenste van het gesteente scheid.
Een seer fraey stuk gepolijst.
